Alta CheeseMaker Tour ‘03

Participants from 6 different Central European countries traveled together to the Netherlands from 14th to 17th June for the “Alta CheeseMaker Tour ‘03”. Alta Germany organized a progeny tour in Holland after visiting the German National show, which, for most of the participants, was a first introduction with the Alta European Breeding Program and it’s bulls. Emphasis was put on daughters of Breakout, Dynasty and Kermit, with the absolute highlight on the home-farm of the Breakout-family, IJsselvliedt. In the beautiful evening sun, the participants got a private cattle show of more than 10 of Breakout’s family members, including the dam and grandam.

In the progeny of Breakout the consistency of this bull and his family shows in the super udders and the youth in the animals. Hindrik Pulk (Estonia): “It is interesting to see characteristics of the family, back in the progeny of the bull”. Kermit showed to be a bull for strong robust dairy cows with a high grade of “farmers satisfaction”. His daughters easily produce milk from well formed long udders. The 9 daughters of Dynasty showed a very consistent breeding pattern with average sized, dairy heifers with an enormous will to produce. Daughters of Dynasty all tracked straight on excellent feet & legs, and had well shaped udders with good teat placement and exceptional rear udders.

“The progeny of the bulls from the CheeseMaker program reflect the efforts of Alta: having bulls with superior production traits that transmit outstanding conformation. The udder traits of all the animals we saw exhibit this breeding policy of Alta, which aims at establishing good conformation in the Netherlands and in other EU-countries to lay the foundation of durability in the cows”, was one of the reactions to this progeny tour of Mr. Zoltán Somos, sire analyst of OMT (Hungary).

At the German National show in Oldenburg the success of the Alta sires was also noticed by the group. Mr. András Gomós (owner and farm manager of a 700 cow dairy operation) said: ”being interested mainly in milk production, it is a pleasure to see that Wade and Aaron, with their progenies, held their ground as show bulls as well, while their thousands of daughters are producing very well at my farm and on many other Hungarian large farms”.

Milking daughters of Hershel, Marshall and Cevis that were seen on Kuhpon Kaarz and Koepon Garnwerd impressed by their extreme milk production and the ease with which they can produce it. A fresh Hershel with 63kg milk and a very strong Cevis with 54 kg at Kuhpon Kaarz showed the production abilities of the progeny of these Alta sires.
