Alta Scores a Perfect 6

The business of developing superior AI proven bulls is extremely competitive to a point that gaining a product advantage is more difficult now than it has ever been. There is less differentiation between competitors on the sires of sons being used and on the preferred cow families that back the proven bulls. Still, the May sire proofs show very clearly that Alta’s product strength currently leads the industry in many areas. Internally we are clear as well on this point. We know that our product offering has never been stronger than it is today.

There are many ways to illustrate product strength. One can scroll down a TPI or NM$ list and check the stud codes. A more realistic way is to mimic what dairy producers themselves do in the sire selection process - set minimums on key traits to narrow down the field. For production conscious dairy producers a typical sort might demand the following criteria be met: > +1500 TPI, > +2000 PTAM, > +1.00 PTAT, > +1.00 UDC & > +0.50 F&L. There are just 14 actively marketed bulls from around the world that exceed all these requirements. If two further stipulations are added – SCS improvement and CV-Free status the result is quite startling. Only 6 industry bulls can achieve the requirements and all of them belong to Alta!

Six from Alta – and there are no others!

There’s no question that +2000 lb milk bulls that can deliver solid type are few and far between. Even more scarce are such bulls that also reduce the genetic predisposition to mastitis, achieve +1500 TPI and carry the TV designation. That Alta can deliver 6 such bulls is impressive enough, however, knowing that they are the only bulls is much more telling. This knowledge reinforces the assertion that Alta’s product strength is at an all-time high.
