Alta sires strong at Koe-Expo

Koepon and Alta were very successful at the ‘KOE-EXPO’ (Cow Expo, the North Holland show) on the 18th January 2005. HERSHEL-daughter Alta Piste 1, from the Koepon farm in Garnwerd and a member of Alta’s nucleus herd there, was named Reserve Champion in the young cow section. Lucky Mike daughter Lage hoeve Els 1 and Dante daughter FE Hotske 1085 provided further Alta success with Els claiming a 2nd prize in her class and Hotske Reserve Champion award in the Intermediate section.

Beautiful and productive, Reserve Champion Alta Piste 1 is the complete package. “The success of the young first lactation cow came as a complete surprise”, herdmanager Alex Borst explained. “She freshened only 70 days days ago”. The strong and very youthful Hershel daughter calved at 2 years of age and is from the famous Bellwood ORANGE family. Alta has tested a number of bulls from this family in the USA and in Europe: most popular from this family is Applouis ORIGINAL (Formation X Bellwood), still one of the highest rated Formation sons for milk.

Alta Piste 1 is one of 60 first lactation cows in the Alta Nucleus at the Koepon farm. Without any preferential treatment she reached 40 kg milk just 14 days after calving. “At the moment she produces 43 kg and does it easily, maintaining good body condition”, Alex tells us.

Alta Piste 1 is projected in 305 days to make 10.288kg (22,685lbs) Milk, 3.48 %Fat and 3.45 %Protein.

Dante Daughters
Alta Sire Regancrest DANTE*cv, a Bell Elton from the famous Dellia family was also impressive on the day. Reserve Champion in the Middle aged group was Fe Hotske 1085 from the herd of Tiede van der Ploeg. Hotske has an enormous frame, strong top line and very good udder. Third place in this group was another DANTE from the same farm: Zwartkop 888. Zwartkop was stronger and more powerful, but just lacked a little dairyness to gain the second position. Her Dam Zwartkop 365 (by Lucky Leo) easily won the Senior Champion and the Overall Champion Title of the Koe-Expo for the third time in a row.

Lucky Mike and Kievest
Lage Hoeve Els, the famous Lucky Mike daughter owned by Mr. Pieter Lam, exhibits increasing quality with every showing. Despite her late stage of lactation, she claimed the 2nd position in her class among the oldest 1st lactation cows. She was one of the few first crop daughters from a sire that made it to the final. Second lactation cow Romana (sired by Kievest), owned by Mr. Agema in Kollumerpomp also received a second place ribbon in her class of second lactation cows. She finished her first lactation with in 305 days 10.543 kg milk 4.11% fat and 3.33 % protein. Romana is a second crop daughter of Kievest, who maintains his very stable proof, currently at 203 DPS with score of 105 for durability at 99% reliability.
