Elite breeders at the Osnabrück Black & White days

At the Osnabrück black & white days we met John Boschma, Breeder of Boss II. Already in the 70’s and 80’s he bought animals from the Osnabrück area, so he used the black & white days to visit the area again. John Boschma, born in the Netherlands, immigrated to Canada in 1990 und bought the farm ‘Woodside’ in West Ontario. ‘Wood’ means in Dutch ‘bos’ and so the farm was renamed to ‘Bosside’. Later he purchased at Limited Edition Sale in Missouri the Tesk daughter Lenzway Tesk Ruby Rita-ET by phone. Rita comes from the Robthom Ivory Mark family which has generated many excellent cows and of course the bull Integrity. |
It took more than three weeks to take Rita from Missouri to Canada, without health certification she could not go over the border. So the examination was done in Michigan and the cow was parked there, until they had the permission to bring her to Canada. In Canada Rita was classified only GP-80 because she was ‘not enough cow’ at this time. Two years later Rita received her final classification of 86 points. In 1995 Roger Turner, Sire analyst of Alta Genetics, visited the farm to take a bull out of Rita into contract. It was planned to mate Rita to Bellwood, but Roger decided to mate her to Juror, because this would be a better mate. So Rita was flushed with Juror. This flushing resulted in only one embryo, which later was Bosside Ruben. Ruben was brought to Alta and called Boss from this time on.

In 2002 John Boschma moved to Wisconsin where he runs a 200 head dairy with his son, daughter and son-in-law. Actually he still inseminates 15% of his cows with Boss. Further he uses Durham sons and also Lancelot and Ramos for contracts. John Boschma could also see the success of Boss in Osnabrück. There, the Boss daughter “Hostess” won the reserve Champion title in the young cows. Hostess convinced with her youth and her excellent udder. |
