Introducing Den-K Aero Cub

by Tyson Flaman, Alta Program Specialist

“I just Love this pedigree. It’s a great sire stack” says Pete Blodgett, who believed five years ago this cow family would make an impact. Well, Pete was sure on the money about this cow family. Den-K Aero Cub(not available in Europe and Canada), a highly ranked new release Alta sire boasts three Excellent Dams including Den-K Rudolph Cub Kiddy (EX 91) GMD DOM who as a four year old produced over 53,000 pounds of milk and is probably one of the best Rudolph daughters around. The second dam Den-K Cub Kiddy-ET (EX-90) GMD DOM by Juror produced over 150,000 pounds lifetime and has turned into a great brood cow that also is transmitting great production and outstanding type through her daughters and granddaughters. Third Dam is a Bova Cubby daughter, Den-K Cubby Dear (EX-90) DOM with production attributes over 148,000 lifetime. Next comes Den-K Blue Mellow (VG 85) sired by Arlinda Mellow. Behind that was a Cal-Clark Board Chairman daughter Den-K Chairman Willow (VG-88) and topped off by the founding member of the family, Den-K Wagner Willow (VG-86) sired by Wagner-Crest Ivanhoe Astronaut.

The most intriguing part of this story is Den-K Rudolph Bond Kiddy, a full sister to Aero Cub, just recently scored EX-91 with an EX-92 MS. Currently milking 163 pounds a day in her second lactation! Bond Kiddy is described as being an extremely balanced cow with a beautiful dairy head and neck, great sweep and openness to her rib, hard topped with one awesome udder! She has numerous contracts and sons in AI. This certainly will not be the last we here of this great young cow.

Already family members are bringing top dollar at any sale they’re consigned to. Recently a June 2004 Finley out of Bond Kiddy sold in the California Convention sale for $13,000 which made her second highest seller in the sale.

The bull himself is described as being tall, long bodied, thin skinned and displays a beautiful head and neck. He has a good foot and is flat through the hock.

Early reports on the daughters seen so far are very favorable. They are black, thin skinned dairy cows that are deep and open in the rear rib. Their udders are attached a little low but are plenty wide enough. They have a deep ligament which is a real benefit for these hard working young cows.

This cow family has been producing great females for six generations now. It seems like no matter what you breed these cows to the result is always impressive. And now with the arrival of Cub, the male side of the pedigree will allow the Kiddy family to provide its positive impact in many more herds.
