Cow families supply the Type we like! by Roger Turner, Regional Sire Analyst, Alta Genetics Inc. On April 6, 2005 the Alta Nucleus Herd at Coopon Flora Farm received its first classification of the year. After finishing off 2004 with eight new VG 2yr-olds, we’re off to a great start once again.
Holstein Canada Classifier Mr. Don Hess evaluated each individual with great expertise, providing precise reasons to confirm his decisions. Don commented on the great overall type of the 2yr-olds in the Nucleus Herd: “this is the second time in the last three years that I have classified at the Alta Nucleus Herd and while Alta has always had great individuals at the top end achieving VG at 2yrs, the overall conformation level on the 2yr-olds has improved dramatically. They are a real balanced group with strong dairy frames.”
If Laurie Sheik is the strongest brood cow in Canada then without question Snow-N-Denises Dellia EX-95 2E 3* GMD DOM is the strongest breeding female in the USA. Dellia is the foundation for our highest scoring 2yr-old this round. Ringing in at VG-86 at 2yrs is KOZDALE-I BW MARSHALL WAND VG-86. Cut out just the way you love a 2yr-old to be WAND VG-86 has a perfectly shaped udder with great texture, venation, and strong attachments both fore and rear with a strong deep well-defined median suspensory ligament. Wand VG-86 is long, dairy, sharp front ended with breed character just pouring from her.
Alta kept rolling out beautiful young 2yr-olds all day long but the final 2yrold to score VG for the day was ZIMMERVIEW-I BW MARSHALL JEANETTE VG-85.
We are extremely excited about the great young cows we have in our Alta Nucleus Herd. These are just a few of the classification highlights. Other young cows that classified well are: Mtoto Gudiva VG-86, Adam Adena VG-86, Inquirer Happy VG-85, Blitz Triage GP-84 and Adam Adelia GP-84. Be sure to watch for more exciting news from the Nucleus in the near future as we deliver the next generation of genetics! Posted May 2nd |
