Alta’s approach to developing top quality genetics focuses on utilizing the best seed-stock from North America and Europe, and sampling them in a manner that maximizes accuracy and builds trust. To date the results have been impressive. With regularity, top ranked proven sires are being added to Alta’s marketing list from North America and Europe. AltaMYRON and AltaDARWIN are the latest examples, following a long list of celebrated success stories.
In the US, when modest thresholds are imposed (80% reliability for Production and Type; +1.00 PTAT, UDC & FLC and Calving Ease), AltaMYRON ranks 2nd for TPI. And with nearly all of his daughters located in Advantage™ herds, the credibility of his proof information is unsurpassed.
In the Netherlands, the story is almost identical for AltaDARWIN. Modest thresholds imposed for reliability; Type Udders and F&L; and Calving Ease leave him ranked 2nd on the official Dutch DPS ranking. AltaLUCK MIKE ranks 3rd, however they trade positions when Alta’s preferred ranking called DPST, adding Type, is used. AltaDARWIN delivers the widely respected traits of his sire Addison, while overcoming both of his weaknesses: Fat yield and Feet & Legs. To underscore the respect these sires command from Alta’s Product Development teams in Europe and North America, both sires have already been slated for use as sires of sons.
For customers, it is irrelevant where good sires come from. The only consideration is will they deliver profitable replacements for the herd? And that’s where Alta comes in. Advantage™ testing of bulls in the US delivers accuracy that cannot be matched by any competitor. In fact, there’s no program that even comes close! In the Netherlands, proof accuracy is rarely an issue. Still, Alta’s success on European soil stems from developing high component sires that also excel on Type.
