And while Durham dominated the show in sheer numbers, when the Premier Sire points were calculated, AltaLEDUC made it closer than most would have expected, finishing a strong second. The table below provides a listing of the top 10 sires in the Holstein Premier Sire race.

Leduc Daughters place 1st and 4th
in the Jr-2-yr-old class

The World Dairy Expo Holstein show included 18 daughters of AltaLEDUC, primarily in the milking classes, with fully a third of them capturing top 5 positions. AltaLEDUC’s show credits include two class winners, a second, third, fourth, fifth, two sevenths and a tenth place animal. In the Fall Yearling class, Frozenes Leduc Jade was a handy winner and in the Jr-2-yr-old class, Rohes Leduc Misty Sue, fresh off a victory at the All-American several weeks ago, made it two in a row with her victory at Expo. In the same class, Gus-Wind Leduc Dayna placed fourth, while in the Milking yearling class a pair of Leduc twins named Macland Leduc Button A-TW and Macland Leduc Button B-TW stood second and third, respectively. A further 15 animals taking part in this year’s show descended from Leduc dams, providing the next wave of his influence.

Without question, some of Leduc’s very best progeny reside north of the border. With the border still closed to breeding animals – even for participation in shows like World Dairy Expo, the Premier Sire race is affected as a result. It works both ways since Durham whose semen never qualified for import into Canada, will have but a handful of daughters taking part at the upcoming Royal Winter Fair in Toronto. There Leduc daughters will be out in force as he attempts to make it three in a row!
