Come to Cremona!
Autumn in Italy... perhaps a dream for North American dairy producers to experience, but for Europeans, it’s not so different than planning to take in World Dairy Expo. And the 60th annual National Holstein Show held in the Northern Italian city of Cremona is perhaps reason enough for planning a trip. For those attending this year’s event, make sure to visit the Alta Italia stand and experience Alta’s invigorated new presence. There’s great excitement among Alta’s Italian team to “show our colors” and to build upon Alta’s proud history in this great dairy country.
Proud History
While Alta Italia may be a new name for Italian dairy producers, it belies the fact that Alta sires have enjoyed a long history of success, starting with such bulls as AltaLUKE, AltaJED, AltaBELLWOOD, AltaWADE and AltaFORMATION. Indeed, Alta sires have done very well in Italy, resulting in a number individuals finding their way to the top of the PFT cow listing (comparable to the CTPI list in the US).

While the very first AltaFINLEY daughters have just start freshening and sires analyst are looking at them as potential bull dams, and there are several AltaAARON, AltaMARSHALL and AltaHERSHEL daughters that have attracted a lot of attention. Three AltaAARONs and three AltaMARSHALLs still appear in the top 20 of the Italian list. |

At GO-FARM, owned by the Gozzini family – a great herd, very well managed, with 400 cows in milk averaging more than 10.000 kg – some outstanding examples of these top ranking daughters can be found. Among these, the most interesting are daughters of AltaHERSHEL, AltaAARON and AltaMARSHALL: GO FARM MUUU - VG 86 - 2-06 - 305 – 13,422 – 3.92% - 3.17% - sired by AltaMARSHALL is ranked at number18, while her full sister GO-FARM PORNOSTAR - VG – 85 2-06 – 305 – 12,946 – 4.09 %– 3.46% is ranked 56th. |

GO-FARM LADY OSCAR – a VG 87 - sired by AARON (and from a VG 88 FORMATION daughter) has 5 sons in A.I.
GO-FARM AGRICOLA - VG 85, sired by AltaHERSHEL has 3 sons in A.I. and another AltaHERSHEL daughter GO-FARM LA PASSION scored VG 87 (first calf) is also contracted as bull dam.

And when it comes to great cows that owe their existence to Alta sires, there can be no better example than New-Farm Aaron QUANTITA - VG 89 – VG MS, owned by the Pattonieri family in Cumignano – Italy and sired by AltaAARON. Quantita is now the number 2 cow in the PFT list in Italy, after previously having been the number 1 cow 3 consecutive times. Quantita’s dam is NEW FARM OTTIMA an EX-90 AltaWADE, making her a two generation Alta product. NEW FARM OTTIMA is developing one of the most interesting emerging Italian cow families. The Aero Wade daughter herself has placed several sons in the Italian A.I. studs and has several offspring at NEW FARM, among which the group of AltaFINLEYs are really outstanding. |
She has always been a generous embryo donor, and her owner, having seen the results, decided to flush her once more to AARON, thus resulting in 4 more young full sisters to Quantita.
Quantita herself is also a heavily contracted bull dam, with no less then 10 of her sons slated for A.I. studs in Italy and Europe. With an outstanding second lactation of more than 15.000 kg of milk with over 4.00% fat and 3.80 protein, Quantita is also a tremendous flushing cow allowing her owner to fulfill thecontracts she has attracted from all over Europe.
Many more examples of success with Alta sires could be listed as well, successes that include Alta sired offspring at Cremona in 2004 (Dante Surprises in Italy (11/04)). It’s a proud history that continues to add chapters with each successive generation of new bulls, many that now also carry several generations of Alta breeding.
