AltaWILDMAN (Ladys-Manor Wildman - BW MARSHALL x WINCHESTER) +1817 TPI
In November he instantaneously became the poster boy for Alta’s Advantage™ program. Rave reviews from Advantage Consultants suggested that this bull, AltaWILDMAN, was special; a one in a thousand kind of bull. Indeed, three months later their predictions have come true. Today this BW Marshall son is the only bull in the breed able to deliver both a ton of milk and two points on Type. He is the complete package – sure to be a widely used sire of sons based on his balanced proof – certain to inspire great confidence based on how he was sampled. That’s why the February new graduates inspire such pride in all of us. Here then, is a brief introduction to the new faces.

AltaZESTY Daughter

Alta ZESTY (Valley-Drive Zesty – BW MARSHALL x PATRON) +1796 TPI
AltaZESTY makes his debut by immediately grabbing onto a top 10 TPI position. Solid production with outstanding Triple-Two-Type and a pleasing health trait profile, AltaZESTY is as complete a bull as can be found today. Wide-bodied cows with particularly impressive rumps, they display correct thurl position, proper stance and a rugged body type made to last. Just a few TPI points shy of AltaWILDMAN, these two make a tremendous 1-2 punch for Alta clients

AltaAPOLLO (Geneti-Co Apollo – AltaHERSHEL x WINCHESTER) +1710 TPI
Alta’s Advantage Consultants have inspected nearly 70 daughters to date, and they like what they see. This AltaHERSHEL son sires deep open ribbed cows with lovely udders, and with well over +100 CFP (combined fat and protein) AltaAPOLLO daughters display a tremendous work ethic too. One look at the daughter photos and you’ll be convinced.

AltaApollo Daughter

AltaJUDICIAL (O-Bee Judicial*BL – BW MARSHALL x ELTON) +1697 TPI
A maternal brother to O-Man, AltaJUDICIAL is off to a flying start with over +2.00 for Type and Feet & Legs. Moderate production is further supported by pleasing Health and Calving Ease too. Daughters are tall, stretchy and very youthful.

AltaJOSHUA Daughter

AltaJOSHUA (Southland Joshua – JOCKO x LAVA) +1637 TPI
The most celebrated among the new graduate crop in the Netherlands, AltaJOSHUA sires impressive frames with long deep ribbing. Strong component improvement is further supported by shallow udders held high and wide in the rear. An outcross pedigree, AltaJOSHUA is a complete package sire that will mate complimentarily with many North American blood lines.

AltaDEVOTED (Far-O-La Devoted – BW MARSHALL x PATRON) +1629 TPI
A product of the highly touted Regancrest Patron Debbie-Jo, AltaDEVOTED delivers impressive components along with excellent udders and feet & legs. Popular throughout his young sire period, AltaDEVOTED doubles as an exceptional fertility sire, gaining immediate residency among the Alta ConceptPlus list of bulls.

AltaCHARLTON (Nordic-Haven Charlton – BW MARSHALL x MANFRED) +1628 TPI
From the same family that produced AltaCEVIS, AltaCHARLTON is the most potent production specialist among the new Alta offerings. Delivering over +2200 lbs milk and +116 lbs CFP, expect no-nonsense cows that can’t wait to make you money.

AltaROSWELL (Alta-I Roswell – AltaHERSHEL x MANDEL) +1594 TPI
Developed from the famous Bootpeg family this AltaHERSHEL son delivers impressive milk and fat yields combined with solid Type and Health. Expect nicely shaped udders with lots of veination from this Calving Ease sire.

AltaJULIUS (Ijsselvliedt Julius – JOCKO x LUCKY LEO) +1542 TPI
Another Jocko son developed through Alta’s European sampling program, AltaJULIUS hails from an extremely popular show-winning cow family. His Dutch National Champion dam is a maternal sister to AltaBREAKOUT’s dam. Both dam and grandam have represented the Netherlands at the European Championship in Brussels. AltaJULIUS sires extremely attractive frames, with deep ribbing, supported by exceptional feet and legs and strong component deviations.

AltaSPARTAN (Orthoapple Spartan - BW MARSHALL x RUDOLPH) +1538 TPI
Backed by the Rudolph daughter of Dellia, AltaSPARTAN represents a logical mating that combines the productiveness of BW Marshall with the longevity characteristics of Rudolph and the Dellia family. The result was predictable: youthful daughters, somewhat gangly as two year olds, but with lots of potential for development. AltaSPARTAN is one of the very few BW Marshall sons (AltaMARSTON is another) with a positive Daughter Pregnancy Rating.

AltaINITIATIVE (Edgemont Initiative – AltaAARON x JUROR) +1510 TPI
From a full sister to Igniter and Inquirer, AltaINITIATIVE is delivers a pleasing mix of Production, Components and Type. Sampled in Canada, this bull demonstrates the versatility of Alta’s Product Development initiatives.

AltaKIRK (O-Bee Kirk - BW MARSHALL x AltaFORMATION) +1500 TPI
AltaKIRK is the result of a BW Marshall mating to the Formation sister of AltaJUDICIAL and O-MAN. Strong, rugged, moderate yielding cows with exceptional udders is the result. In addition, AltaKIRK is an extreme Calving Ease bull.

Customer Satisfaction Bulls

It would be easy to overlook the more subtle changes that occurred with the February proofs: bulls improving with second lactation information like AltaSUEDE, AltaYANKEE and AltaPATTON. Even more, a number of Alta sires have quietly moved into their second crop phase, gaining TPI points in the process. Most significantly AltaFINLEY, heavily used as a sire of sons and now with over 1,000 milking daughters is back up over +1600 TPI. His Type also moved up nicely which underscores the many positive comments from clients. Over 600 new AltaMERCHANT daughters provide a nearly 150 point gain to +1545 TPI, with increases across the board for Production, Type and Health traits. With even more daughters AltaADAM continues his climb, now back over the +1650 TPI mark. Similarly, RAMOS, the OHG developed Health giant added several thousand daughters and gained TPI points as well. And early rumblings about the AltaALLY daughters just beginning to calve suggest another huge customer satisfaction bull in the making. Meanwhile, in the Netherlands, AltaBINGO and AltaBREAKOUT are also creating happy customers with their consistent breeding pattern of easy keeping cows.

In the end, that’s what it’s all about: delivering results. High ranking new sires that disappear just as quickly only create cynicism and mistrust. No wonder some dairy producers have lost interest in genetics. But reliable sampling programs that accurately identify the breed leaders can be achieved with innovation and an attention to detail.
