Alta Expands Business into Ireland

Alta Genetics announced it will form a new retail business to serve the progressive dairy market in Ireland. The company will be known as Alta Ireland, and the agreement to create the new entity is in effect.

“We are extremely pleased to deepen our presence in the Irish dairy market and work with a great team there,” states Cees Hartmans, CEO of Alta Genetics. “We gain a committed team that shares our philosophy to develop partnerships with these dairymen and deliver programs and services that improve reproductive performance, which is the key for sustainable and profitable dairy farming. This agreement is a natural extension of our strategy to be closer to the key markets we serve.”

Alta Ireland team will be lead by Mr. Joseph O’Callaghan, who has deep level of experience in the dairy genetics and artificial insemination industry. Mr. O’Callaghan was formerly the manager for Semex Ireland, and he brings a wealth of experience and is dedicated to develop a team of individuals who have the necessary skills to service the needs of the Irish farmers.

“Alta formerly serviced the Irish dairy market through a regional distributor network,” states Craig Watson, Senior Sales Manager for Alta in the United Kingdom. “Now, the Alta Ireland team will have a nationwide presence and will be in a great position to offer Alta’s product and service line-up plus build partnerships with progressive Irish dairymen.”

The establishment of Alta Ireland will lead to superior genetic products being offered to the market, including high component sires developed in Alta’s CheeseMaker program and sires developed through Alta’s Advantage® testing program. In addition, Alta Ireland staff will be trained to help maximize genetic improvement for dairymen by using Alta’s industry leading AltaMate program.

“Dairy profitability depends on creating pregnancies and making genetic gain in the herd,” notes Watson. “The direct presence in the Irish market will give us a platform to introduce the AltaPreg consulting service.”

AltaPreg is an on-farm consulting and diagnostic service designed to improve reproductive performance, helping farmers get the most out their breeding program.
