The February sire summaries are particularly rewarding because while much of excitement revolves around Alta sires, just as importantly the new additions offer a counterpoint to the many BW MARSHALL and AltaHERSHEL sons that currently dominate the top rankings. Here is a brief summary of some of the diversity that’s been added: 011HO07978 AltaCALYPSO – Nor-Bert Calypso – LOUIE x MTOTO – Highest new release bull in the industry and easily the top LOUIE son, AltaCALYPSO is an exceptional overall Type and components improver. Highest for Type among the new release sires in Canada, AltaFINEST is widely endorsed by Alta staff for stellar, even show-ring-kind-of Type. 011HO07931 AltaD-BEST – Ernlo D-Best – DURHAM x JOLT – Another uniquely pedigreed DURHAM son, AltaD-BEST was bred to make show winners. That he carries pleasing Type is no surprise. That he is very strong on component deviations too is a bonus. Widely sampled in the US as well as Canada, expect many more daughters to be added in the coming months.

Bred from a maternal sister to 011HO07319 AltaSUEDE and a full sister to 011HO06440 AltaSYLVESTER – both ConceptPlus stars – AltaSPARTA is extremely well balanced across the board. Extreme yields in combination with excellent udders and feet & legs make a compelling argument that he should be used.

011HO07741 AltaJURYMAN – O-Bee Juryman – AltaHERSHEL x TERRY – From O-MAN’s sister, AltaJURYMAN continues his climb with improved numbers across the board. Among the most widely endorsed by Advantage® Consultants, the proof numbers are finally catching up with what they have been saying all along. This is an impressive sire whose daughters are pure money-makers. AltaJURYMAN is now a ConceptPlus sire. |

011HO07823 AltaOLIVER – Kelstein Oliver – AltaHERSHEL x ADDISON – From the famous Lou Etta family with recent generations developed in the Netherlands, AltaOLIVER combines outstanding production yields with very pleasing Type. Second lactation performance evidently is pushing those numbers even higher. AltaOLIVER is now recognized as a ConceptPlus sire.
011HO08342 MAC – Regancrest-HHF Mac – BW MARSHALL x RUDOLPH – It’s hard to imagine that MAC could get hotter still, but further improvements to Health numbers and retaining the #1 udder ranking while extending Type daughter numbers to 142 (over 80 among them new) will do that for a bull. Meanwhile MAC is closing in on 300 production daughters that still say he’s a component improver. MAC remains one of the industry’s most complete bulls and he is expected to be used heavily as a sire of sons.
011HO07838 AltaPACE – Alta-I Pace – AltaHERSHEL x PATRON – From the famous Bootpeg family that delivers can’t miss Fat, AltaPACE is right on target as a component yield specialist. Major improvement to all Type traits raises him to top 30-TPI status. He’s another profit-maker from Alta.
011HO07489 AltaAPOLLO – Geneti-Co Apollo – AltaHERSHEL x WINCHESTER – They were widely hailed for their production prowess in their 1st lactations. Early 2nd lactation information has pushed production numbers even higher. What’s more, these are cows built to easily handle the work load. The Advantage® Consultants love this one too – and now he also joins the ConceptPlus high fertility listing.
Second Crop Success Stories Abound
Most gratifying for Alta is that one after another, bulls adding second crop daughters deliver on what was promised. That’s how TRUST is built and it’s a key component of the Alta mission statement.
011HO05929 AltaALLY – Carters-Corner Ally – MANFRED x PATRON – Now with close to 3000 daughters, Ally has never looked better. More health to what already was a stellar health profile helps add over 60 more TPI points. His NM$ rating is now approaching the $600 mark! Only O-MAN and RAMOS are higher for NM$ among active sires.
011HO06116 AltaROLEX – Latuch Rolex – AltaMARTY x AltaBELLWOOD – Beautiful tight little udders on youthful cows is the word from the field, which bodes well for the wave of newly scored daughters still to enter his proof, but AltaROLEX has already added over 600 second crop production daughters and his numbers have improved. This exceptional ConceptPlus bull continues to do all the right things.
011HO06016 AltaSMARTY – Altagen Smarty – AltaMARTY x AltaGRAND – As expected they’re not big, but they are strong and they have excellent udders. Over 1000 daughters are now included in his production summary and they push his fat yield upward – along with a hefty increase to his longevity score. Customers are pleased.
011HO07208 AltaLUCKY MIKE – Lucky Mike – LUCKY LEO x CELSIUS – Not much to be reported yet in North America, but in the Netherlands the AltaLUCKY MIKE fever has reached epidemic proportions. Over 500 second crop daughters leave production numbers unchanged while the Type, especially Udders is even more than what dairy producers dared to hope for. His impact will be felt for generations in Europe.
