Progressive Dairies Worldwide Choose AltaMate

BALZAC, Alberta (February 28, 2007) – Alta announced today that AltaMate users completed 2.1 million evaluations and mates in 2006. AltaMate is Alta’s unique mating program designed to increase dairy profitability through genetic improvement. The program’s recommendations drive the AI program on progressive dairies around the world.

“The 2 million mark is a huge milestone,” says Alain Trudeau, AltaMate Program Manager. “We reached 1 million in 2004, so we’ve doubled the use of the program in just two years. And the pace of growth internationally is tremendous.”

In countries like Canada, US, Germany, Holland and Brazil growth rates reaching up to 28% were posted in 2006. The USA led the way with 1,010517 mates processed! California and the mid-West were the highest usage regions in the US, where AltaMate evaluators completed cow evaluations and delivered sire recommendations to progressive dairy herds.

The AltaMate program was also implemented in 6 new countries including Australia, Ecuador, Italy, Peru, Poland and Portugal. Although new country implementations are done with US based information, the Australian installation and field service will use Australian information. Australia was the top new country in 2006, adding a whopping 31,025 mates in just six months.

“Alta has invested a great deal into training,” states Trudeau. “In the last four years, over 200 people in 24 countries have been trained on the AltaMate program. The expertise and quality of people delivering the service is the source of our rapidly increasing growth.”

More program improvements are planned for release in 2007, according to Trudeau. “We are currently adding new features to the program to better meet the needs of our clients,” says Trudeau. “Our goal is to transform the service into a complete herd and business planning tool.”
