Alta dominates in Paris
by Coen van Rosmeulen, European Sales Manager, Alta

At the French National show in Paris, Alta sires dominated by taking 6 out of 8 possible Championships, leaving just 2 Reserve Champion positions for other bulls. Reverdiere (Dixie Lee AARON) was in the best form of her life, collecting the victory among Senior Cows and the over-all Championship, with twice an Alta sired daughter behind her. Reserve Champion Senior Cow was Shanghai (Lystel LEDUC) that won last year’s show in Epinal. As Reserve overall champion judge Jean-Baptiste Decheppe selected Coum Vahine, an early 2nd Lactation daughter of Altagen MERCHANT that had won the Intermediate Championship earlier in the day.

Alta distributor BOVEC was extremely excited with the success, as they have been focusing on breeding top cows in France for over 20 years: “This is unique in the history of Bovec (and Alta), it is really big for us. It confirms we are THE company for all type breeders in France”, explains Gilles Florid, manager of Bovec.
The domination of Alta sires is a significant accomplishment, since all shows in France are highly competitive with genetics from all the major breeding companies from North America and Europe taking part. The highly competitiveness of French cows is well known and was confirmed during the latest European Show in Oldenburg where France won the country group and several individual prizes. This year’s show in Paris, held traditionally during the SIMA exhibition, was larger than ever and exceptionally strong with many great cows, especially in the older classes.

The day started slowly for Alta sires, with no representatives in the first Class, but thereafter it changed quickly. With 3 daughters of AltaMERCHANT and 1 daughter of AltaFINLEY in the second class, the dominance of Alta started to show. Coum Vahine (AltaMERCHANT) won her class easily with her super dairy frame, her strength and excellent mammary. Her full sister Coum Velia, born from a successful flush on a Derry cow at GAEC de la Coumiere was placed on 3rd position, missing that final touch to be placed second. In the final for 1st lactation heifers, both the Best Udder and the Young Cow Championship was for Vahine winning on length and width of body over Pebi Venel (Boulet Charles X Rubens) that had won the first class.

Uerchant (AltaMERCHANT) enters the ring for the 3rd class.
|
Immediately when the second lactation cows entered the ring, the powerful appearance Uerchant from Duff’ Holsteins / GAEC de Cerisos, another daughter of AltaMERCHANT caught everybody’s attention. Her extremely long, tall, upstanding body was impressive and her udder and feet & legs fit the part as well. She was almost the youngest 2nd lactation cow, but she walked in one straight line to 1st position in the class. The only Alta daughter in the Intermediate Classes then was chosen as Intermediate Champion, leaving behind Tonus (Gibson X Lee) that was 18 months older than her.

Omanie (AltaWADE), winning her class and the productionaward
|
Paris showed five suburb classes of older cows that were impressive from top to bottom. For Alta there were 2 daughters of Lystel LEDUC, a Dixie Lee AARON and among the older cows there were 3 daughters of Parker Aero WADE. Without exception, all these cows marched to the top of their classes. Shanghai (AltaLEDUC), Champion in Epinal 2006, won her 3rd lactation class with her frame, length, upstandingness and her super udder. Roumba, another daughter of AltaLEDUC, just missed the final in the 4th lactation class, being placed 3rd. Class winner was the last year’s reserve champion Reverdiere owned by Pascal Caron.
|
The AltaAARON daughter had never looked better and was a cow that stole the show in the ring. She was tall, strong, hard on top and had super feet & legs. Her udder was extremely well attached with a super high and wide rear udder.
Among the fifth lactation cows and higher, there were representatives of Aero Parker WADE (AltaMERCHANT’s Sire) that showed their tremendous strength, depth and frame. Just like last year it was an AltaWADE daughter that received the production award: Omanie, owned by EARL de Las Peces and Bovec employee Jean Pierre Chabanon, was also the class winner and stood among the last 5 cows in the Senior Cow Championship. The third (Alta) Championship of the day left little room for doubt: easily for the 6 year old AltaAARON daughter Reverdiere, with the Senior Reserve Championship going to the AltaLEDUC daughter Shanghai.

When the excitement of the crowd reached its highest level, full of expectation, the music volume was turned up and the lights were dimmed. Then Judge Decheppe announced his champion of the day. He mentioned that he was really impressed by this cow, her dairy quality and her strength in all traits and that there was only one winner possible. REVERDIERE by Dixie Lee AARON!!!
Alta extends its congratulations to all the winners and to BOVEC for their assistance in making this exciting result possible for Alta.
