Second crop AltaLUCKY MIKE-daughters impress with great production and excellent type scores

AltaLUCKY MIKE added lots of new daughters to his proof in February. In his last index 630 were included in his production index and 140 in his type index. Today many more are in milk and type classified.

The on farm figures and 2nd crop daughters versus 1st crop daughters
We all noticed that AltaLUCKY MIKE his latest indexes proved that the bull is for real, but what is the information behind the indexes, or what are the real data that farmers see on their farms? And, do we see a difference between first crop and second crop info? The following information is based on the NRS, herdbook data we received at the end of February.

Production on 2nd crop daughters is higher!
The 82 original daughters produced in 305 days 7.400 kg milk with 576 kg fat & protein. The 305 day projections on his 889 fresh 2nd crop daughters (259 more then in the latest index) are now 8.017 kg milk with 25 kg fat & protein more then on the original test period daughters. This results in an average herd lactation value of 102.9 at on average 75 days in production.

Type scores on 2nd crop daughters are higher!
In the test period 49 daughters were classified with an average final score of 82.4 (compared to national average of 80.0). At the end of February 204 2nd crop daughters (64 more then in the latest index) were classified with an average sore of 82.7, so a difference of 0.3 points in favor of the new fresh daughters. The udders and feet & legs on the new scored daughters are with resp. 83.1 and 82.3 clearly higher. The increase with 2 points in the index for udder since the August proof is easy to explain with this information.

59% score 83 points or higher
Of the 204 new scored daughters, 121 are valued with at least 83 points. This is an incredible 59%! Of the 1st crop daughters 49% were as high.
In the test period 22% were scored VG85 or higher, where we find this to be 57 daughters or 28% amongst the 2nd crop daughters. In the test period 76% were scored 80 or higher and amongst the 2nd crop we see 81% classified this level.

It is clear that AltaLUCKY MIKE makes heifers that clearly differentiate themselves in production and type, which we of course expected from this high complete calving ease bull from which we sold 0.5 million units now.

AltaLUCKY MIKE excels with:

  • high component milk
  • high type with super feet & legs
  • frames & calving ease
  • longevity; 150 extra production days
  • 2nd crop success
  • super temperament and milking speed
