Alta511 Sexed Semen Races into the Market

May 11, 2007 (Balzac, Alberta, Canada) – Alta Genetics announced today that it reached an agreement with Sexing Technologies to produce a line of Jersey and Holstein sexed female semen products. Alta will immediately start to market the Alta511 Sexed Semen line in North and South America, and expand to meet demand as market opportunities are developed.

A diverse group with solid to high type, production and health traits characterize the first Jersey and Holstein bulls that will be released with May 2007 proofs. The Alta511 Sexed Semen brand name not only connects to Alta’s official “511” bull code for sexed semen, but it also coincides with the date the product is launched.

“We are extremely pleased to bring this product to market and offer producers another powerful management option to create value,” states Cees Hartmans, CEO of Alta Genetics. “It enables progressive dairy producers to dramatically improve the odds of getting heifers from the pregnancies created.”

The technique used to isolate the female sperm cells results in 90% purity. That means a 90% chance that a conception will produce a female embryo, which compares to about a 50% chance using conventional semen. The product is recommended for use on virgin heifers showing good signs of estrus.

Progressive dairy producers can Fast Track Your Future™ by taking advantage of the benefits of Alta511 Sexed Semen. More heifers from the pregnancies created, reduced bio-security risk, and proven fertility performance in the Advance semen straw, combines with the confidence of using genetics tested in progressive dairy environments to define the Alta511 Sexed Semen brand.

“Dairy producers will be in the driver’s seat to speed up genetic progress and gain replacements that perform for their operation,” says Hartmans. “They can take control of the future they want to create and reach it faster.”

The launch of Alta511 Sexed Semen marks the start of Alta’s plans to develop its sexing program. Bulls will initially be sorted at a facility in Texas, with plans to locate sorting operations at Alta facilities inside of 2007. Thereafter Alta will be increasing availability of health, type, production, and fertility specialists in sexed packages, including sires tested in the industry leading Alta Advantage® program.

Alta is the largest privately held AI company in the world, operating sampling programs in the United States, Canada, and the Netherlands. The company is actively marketing genetic improvement products and reproductive services to progressive dairy producers in 84 countries worldwide. Alta headquarters are located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
