Confidence: Alta Programs Deliver!
The word CONFIDENCE – it is so closely associated with another word: TRUST. And in the artificial insemination industry, for so many years it seemed the trust we actively sought to build was just as easily destroyed, when exciting new sires would later go on to disappoint. That’s why Alta’s program approach to genetics became such a focus. With each proof round, including the latest August 2007 release of genetic evaluation data, the impact of these programs becomes more pronounced. We’ll never be able to negate all the variables that can be pointed to as the cause for re-ranking, but much can be done – has been done – to add confidence and in turn gain trust.
In glossing over recent graduates responsible for Alta’s current dominating position within the industry’s various ranking lists, the real impact of Alta’s programs is confirmed by those sires already adding second crop daughters.

Sire after sire, they are delivering upon the expectations that were promised. There are many, many examples: old stalwarts like AltaAARON, AltaFINLEY, AltaADAM, AltaTHRONE, AltaMERCHANT and AltaBOSS set the stage around the world. More recently HealthPlus specialists like 011HO05929 AltaALLY, 011HO05086 AltaBLASTOFF and 011HO06116 AltaROLEX have quietly gained legions of friends. And early reports on second crop daughters of 011HO06414 AltaALLEGRO and 011HO07319 AltaSUEDE effectively continue the trend while in the Netherlands; thousands of new 011HO07208 AltaLUCKY MIKE daughters emphasize the point. It’s precisely the kind of feedback that instills confidence and a powerful platform upon which to build trust. |

Proof round after proof round, new stars have emerged that continue the building process. Perhaps most notably, it began with 011HO07464 AltaWILDMAN and 011HO07687 AltaZESTY, the first graduates of the Alta Advantage® program. They continue to be important figure heads too, but many more recent additions have joined them – some with the potential to deliver an even greater impact on the breed. A quartet of sires – 011HO08195 AltaBAXTER (BLITZ x MTOTO), 011HO07978 AltaCALYPSO (LOUIE x MTOTO), 011HO07965 AltaARMSTEAD (BLITZ x RUDOLPH) and 011HO08342 MAC (BW MARSHALL x RUDOLPH) – will each see sons enter AI. |
All have daughters milking now in second lactation and in each case, their popularity continues to grow. They are leading Type sires that offer a mix of Production and Health benefits too. They are sires any AI stud would be proud to call their own.

A strong supporting cast of sires follows closely on their heels – several also sires of sons in their own right. 011HO07741 AltaJURYMAN (AltaHERSHEL x TERRY), 011HO07856 AltaSPARTA (BW MARSHALL x CONVINCER), 011HO07797 AltaINTRUDER (AltaHERSHEL x RUDOLPH) and 011HO08230 AltaAUGUSTA (FORBIDDEN x AltaAARON) are perhaps the most notable among this group. Tremendous production sires with very solid Type credentials, they are sires Alta offers with confidence to clients around the world. |

New release sires too – several are indeed exciting additions to consider. With daughters already milking in both Canada and the US, 011HO08385 AltaMINISTER (Mr Minister: DURHAM x LEE) is perhaps most notable. Tracing to Miss Mark Maui, he is tops among DURHAM sons for TPI. Outstanding Type combined with very pleasing Health and Production almost guarantees he will be among the most popular new release sires in the industry.

011HO08477 AltaDORNE (Creek Dorne: BLITZ x RUDOLPH), who traces to the Della family will no doubt also find his place, offering excellent Type, Longevity and excellent yield improvement. Meanwhile 011HO08340 AltaFORTIFY (Lutz-Brookview Fortify: FORBIDDEN x BW MARSHALL) offers still more production, promising an exceptional calving trait profile too. And 011HO08421 AltaJAYZ (Hornland Jayz: AltaBOSS x RUDOLPH), a former FutureStar, seems set to eclipse the standard set by his sire for the combination of Type and Health. Remarkably, there’s another group already waiting in the wings that promise still more diversity and the certainty that remarkable depth from Alta’s programs will continue. |

So many more bulls deserve mention too. There is 011HO08074 AltaRESTHA (JESTHER x LORD LILY) in the Netherlands who must be considered among JESTHER’s very best sons, offering exceptional yield improvement with tremendous Type. His stablemate 011HO08493 AltaROADIE-RED (FABER-Red x SPARTA) will be a popular new red & white alternative for breeders, particularly in Europe, due to his outstanding combination of Frame, Udder and Component improvement. Alta’s German partner OHG must be acknowledged as well for the two exceptional second crop success stories they have developed alongside Alta in 011HO08046 RAMOS and 011HO05611 LANCELOT. |

Meanwhile, a high fertility reputation is now well entrenched in the minds of Alta clients. No stud has done more to gain this reputation and as a result, ConceptPlus has become the brand of choice for fertility conscious dairy producers. Similarly, Alta’s reputation as a leader in the establishment and promotion of Health traits is indisputable. Dairy producers have plenty of choice with respect to the genetic products they can incorporate into their herds. And clearly Alta is not alone in being able to point to successes. Still, few competitors can credit programs for being as instrumental in achieving these successes and so consistently delivering on expectations.
