Same Great line-up – just better!

There’s something to be said for consistency; to be considered the reliable source for top quality genetic products. That’s the message from the January 2008 sires summaries as it relates to Alta – and of course that consistency, while celebrated, is an outcome of a determined effort to establish programs that would create that very result.

“We have chosen for quality”, states Alta’s CEO Cees Hartmans, “and consistency in the results we are achieving are an outcome of so many important changes that we have made over the past decade”. From its global approach to product development, attention to a higher standard of data quality for genetic evaluations, and an uncompromising stance on semen processing standards that lead to industry leading fertility results, Hartmans can point to many reasons for the consistent results that are being achieved.

Delivering on Expectations

Second crop success is the clearest example of consistency and the January sire update provides yet another group of sires that are achieving favorable results for Alta clients. Sires like 011HO06414 AltaALLEGRO, 011HO06708 ACTIVIST, 011HO07319 AltaSUEDE, 011HO06440 AltaSYLVESTER, 011HO06433 RUDY, 011HO05778 AltaORIGINAL, 011HO07208 AltaLUCKY MIKE, 011HO06116 AltaROLEX, 011HO08046 RAMOS, 011HO05611 LANCELOT, 011HO05929 AltaALLY, 011HO05086 AltaBLASTOFF and many others too demonstrate that a track record of delivering on expectations is the Alta norm. Time after time Alta sires have proven this point.

Despite the long time horizons that apply to dairy genetics, the acid test on “delivering” can be applied much sooner than second crop daughter arrivals. Alta’s ConceptPlus listing and its commitment to fertility results have lead to a client base that is confident that consistent results will be achieved. It is a matter of trust – just as clients have come to know that Alta’s unwavering commitment to the Advance semen straw is about achieving maximum pregnancy performance. It’s a matter of trust.

New Additions that deliver Value

With each proof summary, Alta continues to harvest quality recruits that provide producers with exceptional choice, but also sires that inspire confidence immediately. New graduates just added to Alta’s sire lists demonstrate the point: highly reliable information on graduating sires.

What’s more, with the industry’s current focus on health and management traits, Alta’s Advantage data not only arrives sooner, but it has no parallel in the industry in terms of quality: all daughters are DNA tested to ensure the company has done all it can to promote accurate predictions.

Alta’s results in the January sire summaries are pleasing in part because so many sires remained relatively unchanged – with numerous small but appreciated benefits for individual sires. For example there is 011HO08195 AltaBAXTER for whom a move to 7% Calving Ease adds yet further to his allure. For 011HO08342 MAC it is a move to 5% on Calving Ease. Both sires have been used heavily to produce sons, so this is indeed a small but appreciated benefit that the entire industry gains from.

Every proof round it seems there is an Alta sire that makes major gains on Conformation traits. This time it is 011HO08421 AltaJAYZ who in retrospect the Alta Showcase tour might have predicted such a result for. All who saw the daughters of this 011HO05071 AltaBOSS son were convinced of his spectacular udder improvement abilities while delivering exceptional feet as well. Undoubtedly, he is one of the true champions of the proof round, combining so many of the attributes clients appreciate: moderate production, ConceptPlus and HealthPlus status in combination with a stellar Conformation pattern that is large-herd friendly.

Consistency extends to Alta’s ability to harvest from all three of its Product Development programs. 011HO08516 AltaTANGENT and 011HO08432 AltaCAPITAL are two more graduates from the Canadian sampling effort who debut with top 100 LPI results. Both have different sire-maternal grandsire combinations that provide additional choice for clients. And in the Netherlands, while 011HO07208 AltaLUCKY MIKE continues to be a phenomenon with dairy producers there, it is yet another proof round where the highest new graduate is an Alta sire: 011HO08642 AltaJORIK, an Eminenz son providing yet further choice. Released to the market in the Netherlands, watch for him to join all global lists in April.

Consistent results for Alta are a consequence of putting the program ahead of the individual bull. And yet ironically, the result is an Alta list of individual sires that has never appeared more attractive. The January sire update reaffirms this point. It’s the same great line-up producers have come to appreciate – just better!
