Seeing is believing with AltaJAYZ
“Seeing is Believing” – it’s the tag line used to promote the Alta Advantage™ Showcase tour series in the US. The reason is simply because it’s hard to convince people about the uniqueness of this sampling initiative and the impact that the quality control measures have on proof accuracy – until they see it for themselves. Impressively large, extremely well run dairies that are focused on the details and with striking daughters one after another, on a long list of bulls from the Alta proof sheet. In fact, on many such farms over 25 daughters are presented for visitors to see. It makes a big impact and drives home the message that Advantage™ testing is the way to go.
Last Fall, 6 bus loads of people taking in the Showcase tour as part of the World Dairy Expo experience can claim that they could see it coming. The gains made across the board on Type for the new upstart AltaBOSS son named AltaJAYZ (Hornland Jayz) were predictable from the daughters they saw. There were AltaBAXTERs, AltaCALYPSOs, AltaTABOOs, AltaAUGUSTAs, AltaARMSTEAD and some 3rd lactation AltaWILDMAN daughters too. But farm after farm it was the AltaJAYZ daughters that stole the show, made more pronounced perhaps because it was unexpected. The other daughters were good too, but these beautiful black beasts had everyone asking “who is AltaJAYZ”?

Fast forward to January of 2008… The incredible udders and the surprisingly good Feet & Legs exhibited by the AltaJAYZ daughters provided him with gains of over half point on both composites. This is a true Type specialist. Certainly bred to be different, AltaJAYZ daughters are black and silky and they exude quality through and through. They are moderately tall and plenty strong with lots of width and depth of body. But they are dairy enough as well giving them that ideal “dairy strength” motif. Quite frankly, they are elegant cattle and the consensus from over 300 participants on the tour was that despite this outstanding Type, they were also the kind every commercial dairyman would like a barn full of. |
AltaJAYZ is a moderate production improver in addition to being exceptional across the board on Type. In fact, his linear is a sight to behold with 13 of the 15 bars you’d like to see extended beyond +2.00 well past the mark – 10 are higher than +2.50! He starts out with a pleasing profile on Health and longevity as well, part of which is owed to an ideal calving trait profile. He’s a ConceptPlus bull, HealthPlus designated too - and a former FutureStar. AltaJAYZ is the bull you’ll want a barn full of – after all, seeing is believing!
