High Caliber Interns Join Alta Advantage® Team Alta Genetics is pleased to introduce the three successful candidates selected for its summer internship positions. Lindsay A. Morris, Malorie B. Rhoderick and David G. Wilson each come to Alta with impressive credentials that convey their passion for the dairy industry. All three will intern within the industry leading Product Development initiative called Alta Advantage®, gaining valuable experience about the expectations that progressive dairy producers in the US have of their AI partner.
Working in the Midwest region under the supervision of Advantage® Consultant, Molly Florent, Malorie Rhoderick will be a senior at Virginia Tech this fall, majoring in dairy science with a minor in professional writing. Malorie hails from a 60 cow dairy farm in Mt. Airy, MD. An active member of 4-H and FFA as a youth Malorie has enhanced her dairy industry knowledge through the dairy bowl and dairy judging programs. She has been an active member of the Maryland State Holstein Association and was a 2007 National Holstein DJM Semi-Finalist. In college Malorie is an active member of the Sigma Alpha Agricultural Sorority and Dairy Club at Virginia Tech. Her work experience includes working as a relief herdsman, a freelance writer for the Holstein World and a laboratory technician for the Mastitis Lab in the Virginia Tech Dairy Science Department. Malorie’s ambition, passion, and dedication are a welcome addition to the Advantage® team. Gaining the western internship position under the guidance of California-based Advantage® Consultant Jarett Zonneveld, Lindsay Morris is heading into her Senior year at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she is studying Dairy Science, with a business emphasis. A keen eye for cattle has gained Lindsay numerous awards related to various judging contests, a talent she has put to use in a previous internship position focusing on the selection and preparation of cattle for marketing pictures. She has been the recipient of numerous post-secondary scholarships and maintains a high profile through membership in a variety of associations – she holds memberships with three separate breed associations as an example. Knowledge of the Dairy Comp 305 software is a definite asset which Lindsay will put to use in her role with Alta Advantage® partners. Each intern will work closely with a small group of Alta Advantage® herds to gain experience in how each part in these progressive dairy operations needs to fit together for the enterprise to run smoothly. Interns will offer their observations at the end of the summer in a complete report to the dairy managers and Alta staff, explaining what they learned. Additionally, interns will be involved with sourcing and picturing young sire daughters, collecting information from Advantage® herds, and ensuring that the Advantage® program stamp of DNA accuracy is maintained. Alta is extremely pleased with the quality of candidates that applied for internship positions. Clearly, the US dairy industry does not lack for bright young candidates who are chomping at the bit for a chance to make a positive impact on the breeding business. And the Alta Advantage® program is a perfect place for them to gain invaluable experience along the way. Alta Advantage® is the premier progeny testing program in the world, comprising 185 herds and totaling 180,000 cows across the United States. Each daughter of a graduating Advantage® sire has her parentage verified through DNA testing to ensure 100% of the data used to calculate the proof is based on his actual daughters. Posted Jun 23rd |
