Why just 170 herds in Advantage?

At Alta, we strive to have the best product development department in the industry, and to achieve that goal, we not only need to sample the best bulls available, but also sampling them IN THE BEST ENVIRONMENTS! Presently we have 170 of the most progressive-minded commercial dairyman in the industry on the program. There is confidence to be gained from knowing that the Advantage product is tested in the best herds available, and best of all it is tested in a very similar environment as the progressive customers we seek to serve.

Although the number of herds may change slightly over time, the current 170 herds give us the capacity to test ten sires per month exclusively through the ADVANTAGE program. We have focused on creating a program that is easily serviceable so that our five consultants can regularly provide the service that these important partnership herds deserve, and therefore these herds are located in the Northeast, Midwest, Northwest, and California.

Finally, we are always looking to make the ADVANTAGE program better and individual situations change on some of our dairies. Sometimes a new herdsman isn’t as focused on accurate ID as is necessary to be part of the program, or decides that DHI testing is no longer necessary for management purposes. Therefore there will obviously be some turnover and each time we sign up a new herd we are looking to make the program as a whole even better!
