What’s the impact of mis-ID?

In a word – HUGE! Misidentification is one of the key factors affecting the accuracy of sire proofs. When second crop daughters either exceed expectations or disappoint miserably, it’s almost always related to mis-identified daughters who contributed to his progeny test data. With an estimated mis-identification rate in the US that averages 25%, the published reliabilities on sires are overestimated by approximately 8%. This means that sires with 100 daughters in 60 herds that have a published reliability of 90%, have an effective reliability of only 82%.

You can be fully confident, however, that our ADVANTAGE sires will have an effective reliability that is exactly the same as the published reliability. The reason we can say this is because “ADVANTAGE” proofs are the only truly ACCURATE proofs in the industry. No other stud can claim that a bull’s daughters have been DNA-verified like the ADVANTAGE program can.

Reliability is a measure of confidence; however how can one be confident in a sire (from a purchasing or selling point of view) if 25/100 daughters are likely to have been mis-identified? Luckily you can be confident in Advantage tested sires because we are DNA-verifying the daughters – what can add more confidence than that!
