Can extra daughters in a proof wash out potential ID errors?

Increasing the number of daughters can reduce the impact of a few misidentified outliers; however the impact comes from the percentage that are misidentified. Therefore if we have 50 daughters and 15 of them are misidentified on a given bull, the impact would be similar to having 100 daughters with 30 of them misidentified. The addition of more daughters does add to the reliability of a sire’s proof, but may not improve the accuracy level. Therefore it is important to explain the difference between accuracy and reliability to our customers.

Also realize that in the above example, the bull with 100 daughters (30 misidentified) would have a more reliable proof than the bull with 50 daughters (15 misidentified) and therefore we should be more confident in it. However ultimately what we want is a sire with 100 daughters which are all accurately identified! Now that is something to be confident in!
