Are all Advantage Herds in free-stall Environments?

Not all of our Advantage herds are in free-stall environments, but they are all in commercial environments. In other words there are no Advantage herds in tie-stall operations where true competition between animals is reduced. All herds are housed either in free stalls or in dry lots, and are therefore managed in a very commercial environment, where the best cows must perform at a very high level in order to “deviate” and thereby contribute favorably to their sires’ genetic information.

Our Advantage herds are not much different than a true-nucleus environment where all cows are given the same management conditions. In order for a certain sire to “make it” his daughters must produce large volumes of milk, stay healthy and get pregnant or they will no longer be in the herd. Our Advantage herds don’t have time for problem or “broken” cows and because of the commercial environment that the daughters are in, too many “broken” cows will certainly show up in a bull’s genetic evaluation!

Advantage bulls can be used with confidence by the most progressive customers whose environments are equally commercial. Knowing that the Advantage product is tested in an environment that is extremely similar to the one they produce milk in should be very appealing to them!
