Proof Stability – how do we compare?

Alta currently ranks at the top of the class – a point Advantage testing is sure to accentuate

Delivering genetics you can TRUST is more than a marketing tag line at Alta – the facts on proof stability back it up. It’s clear that Alta has been working hard to Create Value for clients, delivering high quality products that balance the expectations for High Production and Solid Type combined with Extra Longevity. Our focus is to Build Trust and the best way to do that is by Delivering Results!

Alta leads field on Proof Stability for high ranking TPI bulls

Criteria: 1st crop bulls from Aug. 2002 with ≥ +1500 TPI, 2nd crop proven in Aug. 2005 with ≥ 150 production daughters.
Base: All August 2002 proof values expressed on a 2005 base

Analysis of proof stability by stud, as bulls move from 1st to 2nd crop information, reveals that there are clear differences between companies. A list of key take-away points from the analysis follows.

Proof Stability Conclusions:

  • Looking back, all studs could have done better on proof stability
  • Alta fares best for stability evaluated on a TPI basis, slightly ahead of two other companies and significantly better than the remaining three.
  • Alta fares best on Type proof stability, while delivering impressive overall UDC and FLC improvement. Only one other stud with a small, selected group of bulls offers slightly better 2nd crop UDC and FLC averages.
  • Alta fares best on PL and SCS proof stability
  • Several studs that begin with the highest Type averages, experience the biggest drop from 1st to 2nd crop, not only for Type, but TPI, NM$ and especially PL, ending up with the lowest PL averages.
  • The studs that deliver the most production give up a great deal on Type to do so
  • Alta has delivered the best combination of Milk and Protein yield along with Udder, Feet & Leg and Productive Life improvement
  • Alta’s improvement from 1st to 2nd crop on Calving Ease is dramatic

While no reputable AI company would purposely inflate the proofs on bulls they market, the results of this study show that several company’s bulls are more prone to large drops than others. Data quality, particularly animal mis-identification, may be the key to explaining these differences. As an industry we can all improve on the stability of proof information, but even now Alta’s results compare favorably to other companies. The move to Advantage testing will only serve to accentuate Alta’s leadership on proof stability. There is a difference – Alta delivers genetics you can TRUST!
