To date, highest conception rates have been obtained in heifers when good estrus detection is involved. For many producers a combination of prostaglindins injections and estrus detection works quite well. Prostaglandins is given to a group of breeding age heifers and all are watched for estrus and bred. Those not serviced within 11 - 14 days of the first injection are given prostaglandins again. More than 90% of the heifers should be seen in estrus and serviced after two injections. Keys to gettining heifers bred in a timely fashion is to grow them with little of variation, establish a reasonable VWP and start breeding aggressively when they reach their VWP.

Thank you Chet I think after consulting with my vets I have settled on a two shot prostaglandin program spaced ten days apart followed by a five day cidr sync program for any heifers not observed in heat. I also agree that 90% observed estrus is a good goal to have with this program
