There are many activity monitoring systems used in Heat Detection on dairies today, but one can not find easily how one compares to the next and the benefits each provides.

Just like with any product, heat detection systems (including daily chalking or visual estrus detection) distinguish themselves with the service and support provided in addition to the program and technology itself.

These systems have been shown to accurately detect estrus, but not necessarily more completely or accurately than a good tail chalk or visual program, which have a much cheaper up-front cost, but are more labor intensive.

If you do decide an activity monitoring system is right for you, make sure you consider the quality of the service and support people that you have access to when purchasing a system, as they will most likely be the difference maker in your experience with the system.
