The weight on production in TPI and NM$ is respectively 42% and 35%

In national indexes like TPI and Net Merit, milk gets no direct emphasis. The weight for production is fully on pounds of Fat and Protein. With the high correlation between milk and CFP, it is obvious that high milk has a positive impact on the ranking of bulls, but since weight on production is only 42% in the TPI score and 35% in Net Merit, it means that high milk bulls not necessarily are found at the top.

If you want to check out the weightings of the national indexes then click on the following links:
For TPI : http://www.holsteinusa.com/genetic_evaluations/ss_tpi_formula.html
For Net Merit: http://aipl.arsusda.gov/reference/nmcalc.htm

So if milk has a high value for the profitability of your dairy, you should re-rank the bulls according to your needs.
